Pella Historical Society & Museums' success is highly dependent on our hard-working and talented volunteers. With opportunities for every age, there is something to learn and ways to have fun for the entire family!
The descriptions provide a broad overview of the responsibilities and time commitment required by each. If you have any questions about these positions, or would like more information about a specific volunteer opportunity, please email email@example.com. All volunteers are encouraged to become members of the museum.
Year-Round Volunteer Opportunities
Windmill Guides & Greeters
Mill guides take visitors on a tour of the Vermeer Mill. Volunteers for this role must enjoy talking to people and have an interest in windmills. Training on the working of the mill and a script is available for interested persons. Hosts and hostesses are very important to each visitor's experience at the Museum. Volunteer should enjoy meeting and greeting people, providing answers to questions, and encouraging visitors to take the tour of the Mill and Village. Volunteers will be scheduled as the individuals schedule permits; each shift is a half day. If interested, call Pat Wolf at 641-204-2576.
The miller position requires a person with an interest in mechanical things and is willing to learn to operate a working windmill. Hands-on training is provided on site followed by a skill assessment by a certified miller. Once trained, millers work two or three days per month. For more information, contact Jim Brandl at or 641-620-9463.
As you can imagine, keeping up 22 buildings in our Village, the tallest working windmill in North America, the 170-year-old home of our city's founder, and a country school takes a lot of time and elbow grease. If you have a skill you can share with us, we need you. Maybe it's sewing, painting, construction work, stuffing envelopes, planting flowers... The list could go on and on. We'd love to have you! Contact Cindy Eekhoff at or 641-780-2959.
