Given the nature of our historic buildings, and because we hold a food license for processing flour, only service animals trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability are permitted on tours and in the museums. We cannot allow other dogs, pets, or animals, including those whose sole function is to provide comfort, emotional support, companionship, or therapy.

Pella Historical Museums is working to improve accessibility while maintaining historical accuracy. If you have concerns about mobility, please speak with our staff when you arrive or call us in advance at 641-620-9463. • The Museum Store, Miniature Village, and Vermeer Windmill base and deck are accessible by ramp and elevator. To get to the grinding floor of the Windmill, there is a significant threshold to cross. The Miller's Quarters, Wheat & Flour Storage Floor, and Mill Model Floor are accessible by stairs only. • Flat brick paths make up the walkways from building to building in the Historical Village. • The following buildings are wheelchair accessible (may be a very short threshold): Sod House, Blacksmith Shop (all visitors view from path), Bakery, Heritage Hall Main Level, General Store Main Level, Scholte Church, de Kinderhoek Children's Area, the Klein-Crum Farmhouse, and the Viersen House. • The following buildings require a stair or significant threshold to enter: Log Cabin, De Timmerman, Grist Mill, Meat & Cheese Shop, Delft House, Sterrenberg Library, Werkplaats, and the Wyatt Earp Experience (small step to main level, stairs to second level). • Restrooms in the Museum Store and Historical Village are wheelchair accessible. • Entrance to the 1848 Scholte House Museum requires going up a couple of steps. Once inside, most of the main floor is accessible without further stairs. A video showcasing the second floor of the museum is available for all guests to view. Brick paths make up the walkways in Scholte Gardens.

For the Historical Village and Vermeer Windmill, parking spots are available in the alley behind the Museum Store entrance. This is accessible from East 1st Street. There is also plenty of free street parking available near the Historical Village and Windmill, but be sure to check signage regarding time limits. The Scholte House Museum and Gardens parking lot is just east of the house. Enter from Washington Street - you'll see an ATM in the parking lot. Free street parking is also available across from the Scholte House, but again, be aware of time restrictions. The Klokkenspel, located on Franklin Street, is less than a block away from the Historical Village and Vermeer Windmill, and about two blocks away from the Scholte House. Free street parking is also available on Franklin Street.

• Vermeer Windmill, guided: 45 minutes to an hour • Historical Village, self-guided: Some guests spend an hour, other spend the entire day. On average, you can expect to spend 1.5 - 3 hours in the Village​. • Scholte House, self-guided: Guests usually spend 30-45 minutes exploring.

Yes! We will stamp your arm so we know you've paid, allowing you to leave for lunch, a nap, shopping, or whatever else your day brings. You can come back to continue exploring anytime before we close that day!
