Dutch Costumes in Pella
Dutch costumes, also known as klederdracht, are a cornerstone of Pella's annual Tulip Time festival, bringing to life the city's rich Dutch heritage. Festivalgoers, particularly children, don traditional Dutch attire, transforming the streets into a colorful representation of the Netherlands.
While traditional costumes are still worn in some rural areas of the Netherlands for special occasions and cultural events, they are not part of daily life. In Pella, however, these costumes are a cherished link to the past, symbolizing the community's enduring connection to its Dutch roots and serving as a visual celebration of its cultural identity during Tulip Time.

Thrift a Costume
In the months leading up to Tulip Time, we recommend that you visit Pella's thrift stores: Legacy Thrift and The Well. They will often shelve costumes of various sizes in March and April. In addition, keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace and Pella's various Facebook "Buy/Sell/Trade" groups in those same months.
