Pella is known for its Dutch heritage, but it was also home to one of the most infamous figures of the Old West - Wyatt Earp!

Each September, Pella Historical Museums honors the life and times of Wyatt and his family with a fall celebration. Wyatt Earp Day is fun for the whole family where you can enjoy artisans sharing their crafts, tasty treats, old-fashioned music, and more!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Pella Historical Museums throw a celebration for Wyatt Earp?

It may seem unbelievable, but Wyatt Earp actually grew up in Pella! He lived in Pella from 1849 to 1856, and then again from 1859 to 1864. In fact, during their last three years in Pella, the Earp family lived in a house that is now part of the Historical Village, still in its original location. The home is open to museum visitors to take a self-guided audio tour of the Wyatt Earp Experience.

When and where is Wyatt Earp Day held?

Wyatt Earp Day is in the Historical Village, located at 507 Franklin Street, in late September of each year.

Will you still be holding Fall Festival?

Wyatt Earp Day has taken the place of Fall Festival, but we still have all the activities that make the festival fun! Our talented artisans are around during Wyatt Earp Day to demonstrate what life was like in the mid-1800s.
